Project: Ruffini

日本語

Project Ruffini. Sounds like the Swedish Chef's latest concoction, but alas, it is not. It's another one of EB.Net's trademark 'wacky ideas' - the latest in a long line, from the 'Sweltering Snowman' hoax to the Mr. Sparkle Fanfic.

Anyways, you might be wondering just where we got the 'Ruffini' part from. Well, when you first start a game in EarthBound and walk around in Onett, you'll see the DrugStore. Go in there and talk to the dog. This is Ruffini the dog, possessed by the spirit of the game designer.

Later in the game, after you've beaten Giygas, you can walk around and visit all the places you had previously been to. If you go talk to Ruffini, he'll tell you to write to Nintendo with your comments on the game. Only a handful of people caught this, but we're now acting on Ruffini's request. EB.Net proudly brings you...

Project: Ruffini

This is how Project: Ruffini the Dog will work (we'll refer to it as P:RtD from now on). First, you need the following:

  • Word processor (MS Word works well)
  • Envelope
  • 33 cent stamp
  • Access to a mailbox
  • A little time

Gather all that, and get your brain in gear. If you'd like to participate in P:RtD, we need you to write a short (or long?) letter that will be sent to Nintendo. Keep in mind that, assuming P:RtD completes its mission, Nintendo will get hundreds of letters and may only read a handful. This is why its EXTREMELY important that you follow these guidelines when writing your letter:

If at all possible, make it in the business letter format. If you don't have MS Word / don't know how to do that, just be sure to include an address, a greeting, the body of the letter, and a signature.

Be respectful! This is of the utmost importance. If Nintendo only reads about 6 of our Project: Ruffini letters, and half of them are totally disrespectful, all our work is in vain. Please don't participate unless you can contain your gripes about Nintendo (we know you have them, too).

    Address the following topics:

  • Your NEED for Mother on Game Boy Color
  • How much you LOVED / LOVE EarthBound
  • Mother 3/EarthBound 64 coming out soon
  • Possible plans for Mother on GBC and EB64

  • Once you've got the letter typed up, print it out. If you want to go the extra mile, put this image at the top of the letter (like a letterhead):

Now that you've got the letter printed out, whip out that envelope. Plop a 33 cent stamp in the upper right hand corner (yes, they're 33 cents now, make sure you're not using an old 32 cent or lower). In the upper left hand corner of the envelope, print your name/address like so:

    Name
    Home Address
    City, State, Zip

In the middle of the envelope, put this:

    Nintendo of America
    ATTN: Ruffini the Dog
    P.O. Box 957
    Redmond, WA 98073

Now, fold that letter up, kiss it good-luck if you wish, and seal it. But, before you run out to the nearest mailbox, you must be aware that we're going to have everyone send these at the same time. If anything will turn NOA's head, it'll be the possibility that, out of the blue, they'll receive a few hundred letters, all addressed to one 'Ruffini the Dog' :)

So stash away your envelope in a safe place, and mark your calendar -- Project: Ruffini the Dog is planned to launch on Monday, September 13. Thats right, don't put your letter in the mail till next Monday.

If you've decided to participate in P:RtD, then we'd like to hear from you. After you've typed your letter, copy and paste it into the form below. Be sure to fill out the other boxes too.
