Every Monday we post comments and questions
readers have. If you have a letter for our
mailbag, send it to the
EB.Net Mailbag.
Next week's mailbag topic: What are your feelings about the #earthbound Undernet chat room? Do you hate the people? The ops? The atmosphere? The crummy food?
Mailbag for Monday, September 13, 1999:
I know everyone's busy now, which would explain the lack of letters. But anyway, by now, I hope that you all
wrote that letter to Ruffini if you haven't there's still time to meet
today's deadline. Even if it is after the 13th, you can STILL write the letter and send it in. I'm sure some
of you wanted some kind of an example of what to do, so you can look at what I wrote in *.DOC format
HERE. That will give you an idea of how you can set up your letter
to Nintendo. But the following will be the text I wrote, plus two mailbag letters.

EBounding's Ruffini Letter!

Nintendo of America
ATTN: EarthBound, Ruffini the Dog
P.O. Box 957
Redmond WA, 98073
Dear Ruffini (EarthBound Game Designer):
I spoke to you many times while I was playing your SNES RPG classic, EarthBound. I have finally decided to write to you about how great of a game it is. What I liked about it (as well as many other "EarthBound Enthusiasts"), is the great play control, the music, the battle interface, and especially the unique storyline. Nearly everyone, who has enjoyed this game, enjoyed it for its "uniqueness" compared to other RPGs, or even other games in general. This is a rarity amongst games nowadays.
I personally feel that EarthBound is a hidden gem to gamers as well as the Nintendo company. I am sure you are aware of the EarthBound prequel known as Mother. I am also certain you're aware of the English version that was never released here in America (it tends to be unofficially dubbed as "Earthbound Zero"). Several months ago, I believe a petition was sent to you from EarthBound gamers asking to get "EB Zero" ported (or even recreated) for the Game Boy Color. I would like to know if this idea is feasible, or if it is already being implemented or considered. If you have not seen the petition, I assure you that many EarthBound fans would be very eager to purchase an Earthbound prequel for the GBC. Not only EarthBound fans, but it would most certainly appeal to the entire RPG audience.
I would also like to know if Nintendo of America is making any plans to release the long awaited "EarthBound 64". We have all been very anxious to just get mere news reports and small amounts of screenshots of the game. However, in those news reports, there tends to be some cynicism about EB64 not being released in America (for one reason or another). I would like to know if NOA would release this game in the US. If there are not any plans to release it, I'm certain many people's faith in the Nintendo company will fall greatly (which would, unfortunately, include me).
I've always thought that Nintendo was unique in the sense of their ideas and games. This is still true, but more are needed. Releasing EB64, and even Earthbound for GBC, would greatly satisfy your customers, and reintroduce a great game. I am certainly no financial advisor, or trying to tell you how to run your company. I'm probably the last person to do that. However, I am saying what your consumers would like to see. Many of your consumers would like to see EarthBound again.
Thank you very much for reading my letter. I think you will find that "EB Gamers" are the most enthusiastic and determined gamers of all.
Sincerely, a loyal Nintendo and EarthBound fan,
Josh Hunter

That is what I sent to them. Of course, yours can be longer or shorter. Just say how you feel about EarthBound, and all the events that have evolved from it. Do all this in a REASONABLE manner of course.

EB.64 NOT a Disappointment
|
|
When I look at the EB64 pics I think that some "old-school" Earthbound might be in it. The character that looks like Ness, and with the rumor of Pokey, and Dr. Andonuts being in it I think that the chapter thing might make the game a prequel/sequel, sounds funny, but if that's the case I'd be very happy. Yet what about time travel. Lets say Ness finds out (at the end of EB2 SNES) that Pokey travels to the future to kill Ness's Great grandfather Flint so he'd never be born. Then Ness use the brand new phase distorter to go back in time to stop him while keeping his human form. Then he gets captured *new chapter* now Flint, and the other characters must save him and join together to defeat Pokey. All I'm trying to say is that EB64 could be a greater adventure than we all imagined.

I really think that time travel will play a much larger role in the game compared to the previous ones. We've barely scratched the surface of EB64 information, in my opinion. I know that we're going to find out a ton more (later of course.....), and when that day comes when we finally play it, everything will make sense.

Hey, a funny ting happened to me the uther day. I was walking down the road,
when suddenly, I saw another boy walking on the same road! He was about 5'
4", and he had a red cap! He also had dat bookbag. He looked farmilure, and
then I said "Hes from Earhtbound!" Then I ran home and wrote dis here letter
to yous. Do you think that was the same actor that they hired to play Ness
in the game?

I also saw an oriental guy with a sword in the mall. I said, "Hey! You look like Poo!" He looked disgusted and had his Japanese mafia friends chase after me, which really surprised me.
